The plan to build a bio-mass plant at the Domtar site in Rothschild is officially a go.
Monday Domtar agreed to revisions requested by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to pay more for steam. That will prevent a cost increase to We Energies customers.
The bio-mass plant will be connected to the existing paper mill. Wood waste and sawdust will be used to make energy which will be added to the grid and will power the plant.
Domtar's public affairs manager says the project is good economic news for Rothschild.
"We're anticipating it will create over 400 construction jobs and that will be over a two and a half year period also approximately 150 full time jobs mainly in the logging industry, forest products industry," Craig Timm said.
Critics of the bio-mass plant fear it will create pollution and too much traffic in the area. Timm says overall emissions will decrease 30 percent.
Construction could begin as early as this week.
