It was a special day for some cub scouts. Their family and friends cheered them on as they raced to win the Dave Marcus Traveling Trophy in the Pinewood Derby.
Keaton Edwards said, "excitement, if your going to win or not. It's just you have to wait and you can't wait until who wins." Edwards is one of the scouts competing for the first place trophy.
The preparation started way before their cars hit the tracks. They had to sand it, paint it and make sure it was perfect. However, Saturday's event is more than just winning a trophy.
Peggy Leet, from the Samoset Council of the Boy Scouts of America, said, "it's about families and it's about fun. . . it's about something they remember for the rest of their life, because the Pinewood Derby is really a special event."
It's a tradition aging back to when some of their fathers and grandfathers were scouts and everyone wears their uniform proudly.
As Edwards pointed to his badges he said, "this one is for not missing. . . pack and den meetings."
"These are the rankings that I am in, responded Jonathan Gibbs"
It was an exciting competition for everyone to enjoy.
Three scouts from pack 496 and one from 435 took home the top four trophies.
