Construction Complete on Historic Stevens Point Downtown Square

An historic part of Stevens Point just got a brand new look.

Reconstruction on the city's downtown square located on Main Street was recently completed. Leaders and the public gathered for the official ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.

Mayor Andrew Halverson invites the public to come visit.

"The uniqueness of the market square and of the downtown, of course, is that it's been there for well over 100 years," explains Mayor Halverson. "And really is identifiable as the cultural center of the stevens point and these types of improvements that create an environment where families can come and enjoy the farmer's market and enjoy the beautiful fountain and kids can be able to interact with it, come down and get ice cream or get lunch. It really represents something that we all can really be proud of as a community."

Taxpayers are paying for the roughly $1 million price tag.

A few more benches and garbage cans have yet to be added.
