Boys and Girls Club of Langlade Co. Holds Grand Opening

Updated: Mon 10:53 PM, Mar 21, 2011

The Boys and Girls Club of Langlade County is settled into its new home.

The non-profit organization held its grand opening Monday. With growing membership, the club needed a space to better fit its needs.

Today, they have it, after buying the former Community Center building from the county for one dollar.

"We are fully moved in. Just after the first of the year we sealed the deal with the county, after sealing the deal with the county it took us a few weeks to get situated here," said Nick Sanchez, the club's executive director.

During a grand opening celebration Monday, hundreds of community members toured the club, taking in amenities like a gymnasium and auditorium.

"This is great for the community, great for the kids in the community the new facility is wonderful," said Antigo Mayor Bill Brandt.

In the old facility downtown, the daily average attendance was 80. But Sanchez says since being in the new club that number has jumped to 122.

"I think I credit that to the staff that have been here for years that have been putting together a strong program for many years and now they've got the buildling to put together with their programs and its just turned out to be even better," he said.

The grand opening of the Boys and Girls Club of Langlade County couldn't come at a better time. March 20-26 is National Boys and Girls Club Week.

So clubs across the country, all 4,000 of them, have reason to celebrate.
