Amherst Fair Goes Green

Leaders from one local fair are trying to help the environment, and you can too.

This year, the Amherst fair is going green by selling reusable mugs in their beer tent.

The fair's president says it's a cheap way for people to help cut down on waste.

"The people come, they buy a mug for one dollar and then we keep refilling it. It will just keep our garbage and recycling down to a minimum," said Fair President Tim Pederson.

He hopes the new mugs will help cut the amount of waste at this year's fair in half.

Gates for the Amherst fair opened Thursday, and the event runs through Sunday.

Admission is $4 per day or $7 for a weekend-long wristband. Children 12 and under are free.
