Get Your Dad To The Doc

Still don't have a gift for Father's Day? You might want to take dad to the doctor..and give him the gift of health.

Studies show men are 24% less likely than women to attend their yearly check-up. But, some Public Service Announcements are trying to change that.

The Public Service Announcements are running as part of Men's Health week. Health Leaders say they are meant to motivate men to see their doctor. The ads encourage middle aged men to learn about preventitive medical testing.

Health leaders say most males avoid seeing their physician each year and only start seeing their doctor after they've had a major health problem...like a heart attack.

We found out why some men think they avoid getting a check-up. Jim Brouchoue of Wausau says, "So many men think that there is nothing that can go wrong with them. A lot of them are afraid to go and don't want to find out if something is wroing. Whereas I know there is something wrong."

Avoiding the doctor mean many men miss out on catching problems that could be prevented. Experts say cholesterol and blood pressure should be tested each year, and don't forget to keep your emotional health in check too. If you have symptoms of depression make sure you see your doctor immediately.

They say family can be the strongest motivator when it comes to staying healthy, so you may want to nudge the men in your life to go in for their annual check-up.
