Tens of thousands rode into the 28th Annual Tomahawk Fall Ride for MDA. The event not only raised a lot of money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, but also had a huge economic impact in the Northwoods. Harley Davidson riders out numbered the residents of Tomahawk about 10 to 1 this weekend. The Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce says that this even not only raises money for a good cause, it also shows off what the community has to offer.
"We estimate using the Wisconsin Department of Tourism figures that when we have 40,000 tourists in town this weekend, that the direct spending is about 20 million dollars, and then when you look at how that direct spending is recycled in the community, the overall economic impact of the tomahawk fall ride, is about 140 million dollars," says Christine Brown of the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association raised about $120,000 this weekend at the Annual Fall Ride for MDA. Organizers call the event a success, and preparations for next year's Fall Ride will be underway in about two weeks.
