Some area residents are taking advantage of a city-wide large appliance drop-off that's taking place in Wausau this weekend.
As many of you know, this event allows people to get rid of things like freezers that no longer keep things cold or microwaves that no longer heat things up.
What many of you may not know is once the city takes large appliances like these off your hands, another company takes care of things like the free-on and motors used to run those appliances, In an effort to help the environment.
Owner of ‘Clean-Up America’ Darrell Schillnger says, "I can pump the free-on out of all the fridges and freezers, and the dehumidifiers, ac units, and the other appliances such as washers and dryers. We sort them pull out the motors and they all get recycled out at the scrap plant."
Some residents may have to pay a small fee for these proper disposal services, but most say it's worth it.
Like area resident Virgil Radkte who says, “I didn't mind paying the extra amount of money for the disposal because it helps the environment that the main thing."
If you have a large appliance you'd like to get rid of, it's not too late.
The City of Wausau will still be taking unwanted appliances at the Wausau Yard Waste Site tomorrow from 11am to 5pm.
