Prom season is here.

DC Everest, Antigo, Abotsford, Merrill and Mosinee High Schools all have their big dances this weekend and local police want everybody to stay safe.

A big part of that is making sure teenagers understand their actions have the power to speak louder than words.

Sue Nowak with the Certified Alcohol and Drug Prevention says, "You hear about accidents, you see it in the paper, you hear it in the news, and then you feel bad that the accident happened but you have no clue what the families go through what the law enforcement goes through after an accident."

Law enforcement and high school students staged a mock car crash yesterday to illustrate the devastation drinking and driving can cause.

The demonstration gave teens something to think about with a big message to always be careful
