Website Strives to Bring Suicide Prevention Advocates Together

This week is National Suicide Awareness Week, and a new website is shaping itself to be an influential resource.

Prevent Suicide Wisconsin went online last week.

It serves as a resources and support site for all the coalitions working to end suicide throughout the state.

Its coordinator says suicide is an epidemic in Wisconsin, with 730 deaths last year.

"Each suicide affects a whole community, not just a few select people and I want to see that go away. I don't want to see people go through that," Debi Traeder said.

Traeder says suicide is preventable, and that whenever someone talks about committing suicide they should be taken seriously.

And though mental illness is often a pre-cursor, not everyone who attempts or completes suicide is depressed.
