Grant Funds Sidewalk Along Rib Mountain's Robin Lane

Rib Mountain Elementary students should have an easier time getting to school Tuesday.

Thanks to a federal grant, a new sidewalk has been installed along the way on Robin Lane.

Previously there hadn't been one just east of Ethan Allen.

The Safe Routes to School program provides funding to municipalities to make traveling to school safer for children.

Rib Mountain received $140,500.

"If you know children were coming in from Rib Mountain Drive area to come over.. it just made sense. It all fell together that, okay we can apply for this funding, it's 100 percent grant funding," said Gaylene Rhoden, the town administrator.

She says the sidewalk should also encourage children to exercise more by walking or biking to school.

October 6th is National Walk to School Day.
