Weston officials are not afraid of Facebook.

The village is using social networking sites to keep its residents better informed.

Weston's Facebook account, for example, is updated a few times a day and has more than 500 fans.

Everything from road closures to Amber Alerts are put on the web, making residents aware right away.

The villlage administrator says using the technology is becoming more important.

"Last year when we were doing some meetings we actually tried to do a Twitter, Facebook kind of feed and we had folks that were talking to us from a soccer game," Dean Zuleger said.

Zuleger says so far the response from taxpayers has been great.

And because 70 percent of village residents are under the age of 45, many are used to using online social networks to communicate.
