Farm Historian to Retire

Antique Farm Museum

Ag. Museum at Fair

The Wisconsin Valley Fair kicked off Tuesday at Marathon Park. While one of the state's biggest and oldest agricultural fairs is just getting underway, the career of one of it's oldest volunteers is coming to a close.

The I.S. Horgen Antique Farm Museum in the Marathon Park Exhibition Building, houses about a thousand pieces of historical farm machinery and tools dating back to the late 1800's.

It's long been a destination for school field trips and those just interested in farm history.

Karl Block has been the curator for more than 20 years, he took over the post after his father passed away.

Block, is retiring this fall. He says he'll miss passing down his historical knowledge to future generations.

"It's rewarding to hear that people are still interested in the past. I've had a lot of fun doing this, meeting people and sharing the things that we have", said Block.

The Marathon County Parks Department is in charge of the farm museum, they are currently considering volunteers to take over as curator.
