MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The man who oversaw the 911 system in Minneapolis for 12 years will have a new challenge starting Monday as he starts work on the embattled emergency dispatch system in Dane County.

John Dejung (de-young) turned the Minneapolis 911 system into one of the best in the country. It was named the best by the Washington-based E9-1-1 Institute after handling the emergency response to the Interstate 35W bridge collapse in August 2007.

Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Bob Allen says the department is sorry to see Dejung go. Besides building the system that helped during the bridge collapse, Allen says Dejung helped the city map crime trends using data from the 911 system.

In Dane County, Dejung will implement a $30 million radio system and new computer-assisted dispatch system.
