As thousands of University of Wisconsin students are moving into their abodes this weekend, police and volunteers are going door-to-door promoting safety. The effort is part of “Safety 24-7.”
The initiative was put in place after a rash of crimes in the area and the death of UW student Brittany Zimmerman.
The Marshfield native was killed in her off-campus apartment nearly six months ago.
Friday police and campus volunteers passed out safety tips, bottled water and magnetic door hangers with important information. They also provided students with update on where Zimmerman’s murder case stands.
Officials say the Zimmerman case did not prompt the campaign, but they want to remind students they have to be careful all the time.
