| It is with deep regret that I must share news that Mike Jacques is leaving NewsChannel 7. His last day with us will be Friday, January 9th. His passion and enthusiasm for local sports and dedication to our athletes and their families remains unmatched. I believe I speak for the entire newsroom when I share that he will be missed both personally and professionally. He leaves our Sports Department in the very capable hands of Dale Ryman and Adam Kuhn. Many of our viewers are probably aware that Jocko returned to NorthCentral Wisconsin in April of 2007 – after working at our sister station WMTV in Madison for a couple of years. What you probably don’t know is that he has been trying to sell his home in Madison this entire time – and has been commuting between Wausau and his wonderful (and understanding!) family for more than a year now. We had all hoped he would be a permanent addition to our staff – but with today’s real estate market wishing isn’t enough. Jocko – thanks for all you have done for NewsChannel 7. Please join me in wishing Jocko and his family the best of everything in 2009. |

I personally watch the sports now.I like Dale and welcome him and Adam. They both do a super job.Change is sometimes a good thing. But, we miss Jeff. Posted by: Anonymous I agree with Park Falls, the morning show is horribly weak and needs some changes. Posted by: yeah yeah yeah Location: park falls please tell me you have decided FINALLY to bring Chad back to the morning show. You're very inept morning show was worth watching with Chad onboard. Bring Him back full time so that my family will and can stand to watch your morning show. Posted by: Anonymous Sports on channel 7 has been pretty boring and not very interesting since " Jocko " had to leave. Probably why so many people watch channel 5 and 9 locally. Posted by: Anonymous Mike Jacques was and still in my book will be the greatest and funniest sports caster ever! I don't like to watch sports but I always looked forward to seeing him! He always made me laugh! He'll definately be missed! I hope he comes back again!! Posted by: Linda Location: Wausau I am saddened to hear that Mike Jacques left for a second time- the economy is taking it's toll and unfortunately his not being able to sell his house is forcing him to go back to Madison is one of the blows the poor economy does. I have been missing him and the antics between Jeff and Chad and the others- he was a professional- as all are the Channel Seven Team- Jocko will be sorely missed. I hope he will be able to return to the Channel 7 Team again. Posted by: Anonymous don not go Posted by: Anonymous oh man, they take Chad off of days now Jocko is leaving. Thank you so much for your hard work. Take care and good luck Posted by: Rob Location: Wausau I normally don't respond to things like this, but in this case I wanted to make a point to. Jocko, you will be missed. I was deeply saddened to hear you were leaving. You are a true talent, but more importantly you are a great person. I can only imagine bigger and better things for you. Your passion for high school sports shows in your broadcasts and was one of the reasons I loved watching channel 7. I hope there is a 3rd go 'round for you in Wausau. God luck and God bless. Posted by: Dawn Location: Medford Couldn't believe the news that Jocko was leaving again. Will be sorry to see him go, he is a really neat fellow that really gets into the sports he's reporting on. I remember this past summer at a Woodchucks game when my 12 year old son happened to see him on the field near the fence. He leaned over to say hi to Mike and Mike took time out from reporting on the game to chat up my son for a few minutes. Reid, that young boy you talked to, still remembers that day fondly. He liked watching your antics more than the rest of his family. You will be sorely missed in this family and we eagerly await your return...Lots of luck to you, Mike. Posted by: Paula Rein Location: Wisconsin Rapids Mike Jacques you have been a joy to watch, expecially. with your bantering with Jeff. You will be missed but sure understand why moving to be with your family has got to be a priority. We only moved to this area a couple of years ago, so we misssed your first stint at channel 7, you know what they say...3rd time's a charm, we will be looking for your return. Take good care Posted by: Dick & Judy Location: Waupun Thank You Much for mentioning our names on your show. We just about fell off our chairs. We have heard, "what a neat and nice man you are". We only want the best for you and your family. THINK SPRINg, I can hardly wait. The days are finally getting longer!! Take Care God Bless You and Your Loved Ones Judy Posted by: Elle Location: Stevens Point What a shock to watch tonight's broadcast and learn Jocko is leaving. But where are you going??? You ARE a rock star, but more than that, you have the following of a rock star. Your personality transcends the airwaves, making you a personality we seek out when viewing. I can't tell you the number of times over the past years that we have gone with fans to a "pub" after local sporting events and changed to Channel 7 to watch Jocko's coverage. No offense to the others, but without Jocko, it's just another news channel. Jocko's one of a kind. What a void this leaves. You made the sports reporting actual entertainment! You have brought countless smiles. You ROCK! Very best to you and your family. Posted by: Les Location: W.R. Jocko, you will be missed. You were always so entertaining. You'll probably sell that house now that you've made the decision to leave, so if you do, come on back. Good Luck. Posted by: Bob Location: Rozellville I thought to myself too WTF! What a major bummer that Jocko is leaving because of what is more or less this terrible economic scene going on here in the U.S. There are alot of vistims because of it but who would've ever thunk that it's costing Jocko his beloved positon at NewsChannel 7. I was a great ride having you back for the 2nd time around! Good luck to you and who knows what the future holds. If you happen to come back, we'll be waiting for you!. Posted by: ReadyKiloWatt2 Location: Wausau We will miss watching you (and your smile)! So sorry to see you go Jocko! Good luck to you! Posted by: Julie Location: Merrill, WI I can't believe you are leaving again! I'm not a big sports watcher but watch all the time BECAUSE OF YOU.. just to see what kinda funny things you will come up with next!!! You made Sports worth watching! EVERYONE UP NORT' will surely miss you and your WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR, it won't be the same... I hope you sell that house and come back up!! You will be welcomed back with OPEN ARMS!!!! Posted by: Tobele Location: P-love Jocko, your girls in P-love are really going to miss you and your witty broadcasts. Good luck in your future. Channel 7 is going to feel a big loss! Posted by: Matt Location: Wausau WTF, Jocko is leaving... that really sucks! He was a great local sportscaster and will be missed greatly. I hope he finds a good job back in Madison. Thank you so much Jocko for putting the spotlight on A LOT of area sports teams and players. Your comedy and good sense of humor along with your on-air barbs with Thelen and Bruenling will truly be missed! Posted by: John Jocko, you make every sportscast fun. You will be missed! Posted by: Bill Location: Wausau News Channel 7 loses alot with the departure of Mike Jacques. I wonder how hard the station really tried to maintain " Jocko ", a dedicated professional who gave up alot in his personal life to come back to Channel 7 and help fill their needs at a time when it was really needed. He was extremely popular with the youth in the surrounding area and will sorely be missed by local schools. When Mike leaves on Jan. 9th, Channel 7 loses alot of class and credibility and will sadly be missed by all who came in contact with him. Posted by: mandy Location: Wis.Rapids Awww Jocko's leavin? i wish only the best for him and his family, will miss his high energy awesometasic (srry chad) sports reportin. he's funny at 10pm with his humor. dont lose that. thank u for all u have done. |
