I think summer school has become a baby sitter and isn't what it was originally intended for, kids who needed some extra help. Its a waste of our tax payer money. Why don't the school districts consider scaling it back to what it was with no freebie bussing. That might help with their budget dilemas and save the tax payers some money.

Summer school makes it way too easy for parents to pass the responsibility of parenting on to schools. For the kids that need special support, this may be the alternative or resource needed. But what this country and our kids really need his family and quality family time that can be made available during the summer.

I'm a teacher and I totally agree with the with Bill's idea that school should be twelve months out the year. The extra time will certainly help to achieve all of the realistic expectations set forth by No Child Left Behind legislation. Are you ready to lift Revenue Caps in order to ensure that proper funding will support this endeavor?

it may be a waste of tax dollars but the kids who are in summer school obviously need the help. So if we just sit by letting them flunk who are we helping? Only ourselves because we think were saving money.

We pay to send our kids to summer school and she doesn't need "freebie busing" or "extra help" or a "free babysitter" as you call it, shes 15 and taking Drivers ED. I pay taxes... do you or are you another that doesn't want to work and collect off me? Do you have kids? then you would see the importance of the "extra help" that kids need.

It's about time not only Wisconsin but the rest of the country put our children to school 12 months a year like most of the rest of the world. It is a waste of time and it no longer serves a useful purpose for which that time was designed for. We are losing ground in our childrens education to foreign countries. I guess our politicians and school administration would rather see our kids stand on street corners all summer.
