Why is it that it is against the law to have cars with straight pipes, but the motorcyclists get away with have extremely load pipes? I thought the law applied to them too? Or does everyone have to loss their hearing just for some Harly-Davidson dude to pretend that he looks cool?

Why do motorcyclists get away with loud pipes? Because your local police, your state police, your state department of motor vehicles, and even your legislature, is letting them get away with it. You need to ask your state officials that question, and when they give you only excuses for not enforcing the law, you need to tell them that is not acceptable.

May I ask, do you get as upset when you see someone driving along using their cell phone, doing there make up etc etc? I have ridden for 30 years and I find my loud pipes (on my Triumph) make those bad drivers look up and pay attention! LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!

The problem goes beyond the apparent. Why is it ok for people to ignore virtually every traffic law and not for the Harly riders to keep their pipes as loud as they please. We live in a "me" society, well except me, I think it's a great idea to conform to some simple rules, if not only to affirm the connection between people as being part of organized society, with a loving spirit towards others at it's base. Each time you exceed speed limits you are cruising down the highway in a rolling billboard that says...I am above the law. If you extract that value and look at how politicians act, how criminals act, how the police act, how everyone acts, it becomes clear what the Mores of the society are.

Carol- Im soo sorry this is happening to you,i have a motorcycle and believe me there are some normal motorcyclists out there to me this guy is a "dirtbag" try contacting your town represenitive. Obviously the police havent taken care of it. Get all your police reports and file a lawsuit against him and the town. Keep us posted but please dont think all of us are like that.

Since this maniac across the alley from me got this loud motorcycle, he goes under my bedroom window and keeps me from sleeping maybe until 1 or 2 a.m. He sits in his garage and zooms it now that it is cold. I had my home office for transcription almost sound blocked until this person moved here and now have lost my transcripton job because of this. He has a family but all he seems to do is obscess with this motorcycle late at night especially not caring who he might wake up or bother. I asked police to talk to him and at first a little better, but now he is even worse than before. Can I press charges or get a restraint order or something before I lose my mind and have my house foreclosed on because I cannot work and my social security is not enough. Next summer I may have to sleep on couch if I want any sleep. Soundproofing helps deaden or block a lot of things but certainly not this motorcycle.

This isn't the only site loud vehicle noise is reviled or in this case specifically loud motorcycles, as the topic listing right above states. That is the reason you are not blind as yes, it's about loud motorcycles. There are other illegal loud vehicles out there for sure and that is an issue which you can address at perhaps an all inclusive illegaly loud vehicle blog and please do.

No for your information i did not say forget about it, as you can see i wrote i agree that yes there is way too many loud vehicles. The point about the sterotype is its all about motorcycles and not about anything else, thats the point im trying to get across. If you read through this whole thing you will see what i see. Im not blind. I see alot more loud vehicles besides motorcycles. So lets look at the BIG picture. For example... Some jap cars, redneck trucks with loud pipes, the lil punks that drive around with their music blaring. Thats what im trying to say, lets do something about all of them dont just mention about one and not all.

I brought up the illegal parking because it's in the same category of laws as noise ordinances which you say to forget about. The simple logic is there , you just need to think just a small amount to see that. Peace and quiet are nice to have and enjoy as the majority of Americans want this hence the noise ordinance laws. I do know how good it is to live here thanks to the laws in place . I don't want it taken away by illegal forget about it people . That forget about the petty crap attitude if too prevalent would swiftly put the U.S. into a 3rd world category. All top class countries have such laws. They are among the most desirables places to live. By the way what is with you saying people are stereotyping motorcycles?? Quiet ones are welcome. Illegaly loud ones are not. That's the opinion of most of the people against loud motorcycles on this site. I don't know where you get the stereotyping bit from.

This is to the last anonymous comment, why would you bring up a fact about parking in a hanicapped space this blog has NOTHING to do with that issue thats another blog in its self. The point to the matter is yes i will agree there is way too many loud VEHICLES but to sterotype just motorcycles is wrong. Just because you dont ride a bike does not give you any right to say if loud pipes do or dont save lives. Im so sorry if you feel this way but everyone needs to look at things that really matter. To dictate to people how to live their lives is the exact same thing that out lovely government is trying to do, ok well then we will say every american citizen that owns any vehicle has to pay Hwy Use tax of 550.00 per year per vehicle just to drive, oh thats right i do that now just for owning semi's. Some people just dont know how good they really have it... Until its GONE

Thanks Bill. I'm assuming you mean the anonymous one against loud motorcycles. And it seems the last anonymous who said to forget this childish blog doesn't want any legal laws at all for such "small" offences as noise ordinances or probably any others. You must drive a loud cycle yourself I'm thinkin'. Maybe you park it illegally in a handicapped spot and think big deal, forget the petty crap!

Oh my gosh, its been how long and people are still trying to defend whats right and whats wrong!! Worry about yourselves and your own lives and stop worring about who's breaking the law, this sure is one childish blog. News Channel 7 should remove it, there hasent been not one point proven or not proven. Go on with your life and worry about something else thats going on in our country besides petty crap.

If louds pipes on motorcycles are for safety, shouldn't they be pointing forward, not back? So the people in front of you can hear you better?

Sure loudlover, lets let all(not just some like you) motorcycles be legally loud but why stop there and be selfish? Let's give all vehicles the same rights to be loud so they can also rev their engines when danger is imminent. And crud. I live in a city with hills. If you come to my city will you please shut your engine off and push your cycle up the hills? Cause I know they make wonderful noise when resistance is met.
