Brett Favre... Who cares? Well...

Well, Brett’s back. But not before some more of his patented drama.

With every tidbit of new Favre info... comes a new Favre news story. The coverage is everywhere from ESPN to WSAW, and a lot of us are just sick of it. We roll our eyes, make jokes, and some of us scream “who cares?!” Some of us even want to stab his eyes out. (see attached video)

The answer is: a LOT of us care.... at least a little bit.

On our Facebook page and on, any Favre story we post quickly becomes one of the most clicked-on and most discussed. The day ESPN had nearly wall-to-wall coverage about a possible Favre text message implying he was retiring, they saw a 50% boost in viewers, according to a report on ESPN radio. When Favre steps onto the field this Sunday to take a few snaps for the Vikings in a Nationally-televised preseason game, a lot of people will be watching.

I’m a tried-and-true Packers fan, and am REJOICING that Favre’s indecision is now the Vikings’ problem. I think the whole Favre saga has gotten so ridiculous that many of us click on every story and watch Favre coverage just to see the latest chapter of one of the most absurd stories in sports. Each new twist is a whole new punchline. We really just can’t look away.

The other reason I care is because Favre’s return could have a serious impact on the Packers’ season. It’s hard to dispute that the Vikings without Brett Favre are a much different team than with him. I think the Packers can win the NFC North no matter who’s playing quarterback for Minnesota, but Tavaris Jackson is a whole lot less intimidating than Favre. That said, I want nothing more than to see the Packers beat Brett Favre the Viking.

So... sick of Favre talk? Yes. How could we not be? But that doesn’t mean we don’t care. I know I have October 24th and November 21st circled on my calendar.
