On December 11th and 12th, a major snowstorm impacted North Central Wisconsin and for that matter most of the Badger State with hefty amounts of snow and wind. Blizzard conditions occurred in Green Bay, while near whiteout conditions were observed across the region during the brunt of the storm. When all was said and done locally, snowfall totals ranged from 6" to as much as 21". For detailed recaps of the storm you can check out my previous blog on the forecast for the storm arriving, the NWS Green Bay Recap, the NWS Duluth Recap, the NWS La Crosse Recap, and the NWS Milwaukee Recap. Here are some maps of the snowfall totals in the state.

A note on the NWS La Crosse Map above. The bulls eye of snowfall totals in NE Wisconsin appears to be incorrect in comparison to the NWS Green Bay map and actual observations. Most other locations in the purple shading of 12-15" and points within the NWS La Crosse area are more on target.
Now on to how this storm stacked up historically speaking in our area. Needless to say this is one of the heaviest snowfalls that we have seen in some time. Here are the official stats for Wausau and Rhinelander.
For Wausau 12.8" of snow fell on Sat. Dec 11th and 0.7" accumulated on Sun Dec 12th for a storm total of 13.5".
-The 12.8" of snow on Dec 11th was a record for the date (previously 6" in 1899)
-The All-Time Biggest Calendar Day Snowfall in December (previously 11.2" Dec 17, 1990)
-The 2nd biggest All-Time snowfall on a calendar day (greatest amount 13" Feb 5, 1908)
-Snowstorm total of 13.5" is the All-Time Biggest Amount in December (previously 12.9" Dec 6-7, 1950)
-And 5th All-Time Biggest Snowstorm (greatest 22.1" March 5-6, 1959)
For the record, here are the Top 5 Biggest Snowstorms in Wausau:
1) 22.1" March 5-6, 1959
2) 18.6" March 3-4, 1985
3) 18.0" March 9-10 1909
4) 15.0" March 3-4, 1989
5) 13.5" December 11-12, 2010
For Rhinelander 10.3" of snow fell on Sat. Dec 11th.
-This set a record for Dec 11th (previously 1.5" in 1964)
-The All-Time Biggest Calendar Day Snowfall in December (previously 10" Dec 22, 1968)
In addition, La Crosse picked up 13.9" on Dec 11th and had a storm total of 16.6". Here's a break down of how this went down in their record books, along with Rochester, MN.
Last but not least, below is a list of snowfall totals from the NWS Green Bay. The 4th column number is the total snowfall amounts from the storm, which is what most people are interested in knowing.
