Weather Radio Safety program

This week with many folks attempting to squeeze in those last carefree days before it's back to school and the regular work routine, it seems like a great time to explore the future of weather gadgets. For the true weather enthusiast, having the tv on our 24/7 weather channel, along with one of those snazzy electronic weather station gadgets showing the conditions outside your home may be nirvana in and of itself. But let's say you're doing a road trip or taking a vacation in another part of the country and just need to know how the weather may impact your plans. Let's start off with the handy smart phones like the iPhone and Blackberry which can not only do the basics, but also help you find a great restaurant, give you movie times and let you twitter all in a matter of moments. Yes you can certainly get weather apps on your phone (including one from Newschannel 7), but how about having your phone's display change based on what the weather is going to be like for that day. Here's a concept of how it could look:
Realistically, how many people would freak out and think they've just killed their phone? Must of dropped it in the toilet or left it out on a frosty Wisconsin morning! Then you figure out you had the "weather window" feature turned on.
Moving on to being in the car, GPS devices are another handy gadget which helps you never get lost, but is there a way they could do more? How about show you an up to the moment radar with details on how far away a storm might from you on the highway, or a real-time update on whether roads are wet, icy or snowy. I can hear it now, "you are 2 minutes away from heavy rain and lightning...some flooding possible..SLOW DOWN!". I think this idea has been gradually working into the mainstream, even to the point where cars can literally talk to one another and thus provide data on what weather obstacles may lie ahead on any given road. So not only can you get directions to that relatives house in Florida, but also know how long you'll be caught into a drenching thunderstorm on I-95, or if I-39 is like an ice rink from Plover to Plainfield.
Of course this is just scratching the surface at having weather info for what ever you're doing or where ever you might be. Needless to say, technology will continue to advance as the years go by, and I'm confident there will be some very cool ways that it can be tailored to make us more aware of what is going on in the world of weather.
So what type of weather gadgets would you like to have?
