Mapping Out Election Day Weather

Residing here in North Central Wisconsin, we certainly experience an array of weather conditions on Election Day. I'm not just talking about the general election on the first Tuesday in November, but also the times of the primary elections in February, the local general elections in April, and that less publicized late summer primary election usually held in September. As you can see, we pretty much have a time for voting during each of the seasons on the calendar. Whether it is venturing out in the dead of winter with sub-zero temperatures and the potential for snow or early November when it can literally be a toss up as to what you may encounter, we certainly have to be prepared. This Election Day, Mother Nature is giving the Badger State a beautifully warm and dry day to make our selections at the polls. Temperatures look to climb into the 60s and you'll actually be happy to stand outside in line before making your selections. Of course, peeking back in time, it hasn't always worked out so nicely. The last presidential election in 2004 featured mostly cloudy conditions with a couple of late day showers and daytime highs in the mid to upper 40s, while in 2000 there was persistent rain, which ended up mixing with snow during the evening hours. I'm sure there have been some other instances in years past where some even wilder weather has occurred. Nevertheless, we can't blame the weather this go around as a reason for not going to cast a vote.

Meantime, I would like to take a moment to congratulate the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies on their triumphant victory in the World Series, beating the Rays 4 games to 1, with probably the most dramatic final 3 innings of any World Series to ever happen...two days after the game got started. I had the opportunity to attend the celebration and parade in Philly on Halloween and never before have I seen so many people in such a happy mood, let alone the sea of folks decked out in red. It was truly worth it to be with my fellow Phillies fans to enjoy this moment, which at least for me has been an once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully the Phils can continue their winning ways and there can be more moments like this for years to come. For now, I still get a great big smile every time I look at the championship shirt and hat that I have at home. They really won the World Series!
