You Have Got to Watch This Show!

It's been a while since I recommended a TV show to you.

Ironically, I think my last recommendation was about a show that involved the military, too. It was a movie called "Taking Chance" with Kevin Bacon on HBO. About a Marine who accompanied a the remains of another young Marine who was killed in combat home to his final resting place. If you haven't seen it, look for it. It's outstanding!

My new recommendation is about a show on Lifetime. I hope I don't have to turn in my "man card" for admitting I watch a show on Lifetime. It's called "Coming Home." In a nutshell, it follows members of the military as they return home from active duty to surprise their families. And it's amazing!

In the premiere episode, an 18-year old football star was signing his letter of intent to play in college at public event at his high school. His father, who always yelled "that's my boy" when his son had a great play was unable to be there because he was serving our country overseas. Or so the young man thought. The father had actually come home and stepped into the event yelling "that's my boy" as the boy signed the letter. It was very good TV.

Another segment was about a 7-year old who loved everything about Knights and sword fighting. That boy was taken to a special sword fighting show. Then given a chance to meet the Knights, not knowing his Dad was in one of the costumes. The look on the boys face when he realized it was his dad was a thing of beauty. And if you didn't tear up during the interview with the Dad, talking about how tough it is to be away from the family you don't have a heart.

The host of the show is Matt Rogers. He's best known as an American Idol finalist and host of show called "There Goes the Neighborhood." He's pitch perfect. Caring, but not sappy.

With apologies to the boss for recommending a show not here on NewsChannel 7, you have to watch "Coming Home." Sundays at 9pm on Lifetime
