Hi all. Just a few odds and ends on my mind this week.
The Supreme Court is taking up the freedom of speech issue involving the Westboro Baptist Church. That's the one from Kansas that goes to funerals for military members, carrying signs that say disparaging remarks about gays. No matter how repulsive the things people say are, in this country they still have a right to say them. However, in this case I'm sort of hoping the justices not only order the church members to stop spreading their bigoted nonsense and disrupting the final goodbyes of our military members, I hoping they order duct tape put over their mouths permanently.
I've had some good debates with fellow sports fans on this one. Should Badger coach Brett Bielema have gone for 2 points in the extra point when already beating up on Minnesota in the battle for Paul Bunyan's Ax? I think it was an absolute classless move on his part. And the "It's on the card" explanation Bielema gave in his post game interview didn't cut it. On the other hand, if Minnesota's program has gotten that bad, they should direct their energy at making it better and not at the other team that's just beat them again.
Finally, the mainstream media is investigating the Brett Favre "sexting" allegations. I'm not even going to get into what they are. You can Google it. But be warned, it's not for kids. The media has been ignoring it for months. On the other hand, ESPN has clearly issued a memo to all it's people to avoid the issue. By the way, for people who say it's no big deal, I have to respectfully disagree. If it's true, it's a very clear cut case of sexual harassment. (not to mention pretty creepy)
Remember before the season began and everyone was predicting the Packers were a Super Bowl contender? That was fun. In the game with Washington there was bad play calling, too many penalties, so-so special teams, lack of protection, lack of pressure on the opponent's QB (after Matthews was hurt), and an untimely interception thrown by Rodgers. Haven't we seen this act before? You can blame some of it on injuries, but as they said in the show on the radio after the game, it was more about a lack of execution than injuries. That's being said, ENOUGH WITH THE INJURIES, ALREADY!
OK, I guess that's enough venting for me this morning. How do you feel about these issues? Or any others for that matter? You know what to do.
