Isn't Dieting Supposed to be Easier in Summer?

I thought dieting, ah I mean living a healthy lifestyle, was going to be easier in summer. It's not.

I had reached a loss total of about 46 pounds on Easter. Sound the trumpets! But since then I've done nothing but go up and down. At last weigh in, I was at 43.5 pounds of loss. That's great but it's only half, exactly half, of the 87lbs I want to lose.

Part of it is because I'm struggling to keep the will power I had when I first started. Lately, I have honestly not stuck as closely to my plan as I did from September to Easter. That is living by the Weight Watchers Winning Points plan 4 or 5 days a week, eating what I think a normal sized person would 1 or 2 days a week and giving myself one free day a week when I get to eat whatever I want. That, along with two daily dog walks, 20-minute treadmill speed walks three 3 a week and lifting weights 3 times a week was working.

I thought yard work would make this effort easier. It hasn't. Mowing and tending to the other stuff in the yard would only make the weight melt off faster, I thought. But it turns out that after mowing the lawn or doing other chores, I don't have the energy to hit the weights or the treadmill. In the winter, when there's not much to do, it's easy to head down to my dank basement to hit my makeshift little home gym.

I've also been told it's harder to lose weight when you don't have as much to lose. So, this task will be tougher now that I want to lose 43.5 pounds instead of 87. I've always heard this, but never had the experience myself, so I don't know.

Internal questions are also starting to get louder. Will I ever get to the point where fighting my weight is not such a major part of who I am? Will I ever get to just "eat what a normal sized person would" all the time without thinking about it? Or will the fat guy inside me always be fighting to come back out? I think deep down I already know the answer to those questions.

I've been thinking of joining a gym. There's a new one open right between work and home making it really convenient. It's also open anytime, so I would fit in with my weird morning anchor schedule.

So, thanks for listening to me vent about my diet frustrations. If you have any ideas to help me get completely back on track, feel free join the blog discussion.
