Couple subjects on my mind today.
As I write this, Guiding Light is set to air it's last episode after more than 70 years on radio and TV today. I don't watch it, but it makes me sad. There are just some shows that if feels like have been on forever and should be on forever. Law & Order, 60 Minutes and Guiding Light are among them. But, I guess times change and this is a business driven by ratings. Grandma Thelen would be devastated if she were here and seeing her favorite "story" going off the air.
I had my 25th class reunion a week ago. We had a picnic, a tour of the school and went to the football game. The next night there was a dinner and dance, but I couldn't make that. The school is all changed around (high is now elementary, etc) and there are A LOT more computers now than in the 80's. It was great catching up with some people I've not seen in two and a half decades. The good and bad news from the event was BAD: I was among those who've gained weight. GOOD: I was not among those who've lost hair. All and all a really fun event! Go Cougars!
I Also haven't talked to you since my Holiday Vacations trip to Alaska. Mother Nature was not as kind this time as she was when I hosted that trip a few years ago. It was rainy and cloudy most of the time. But Alaska is some of God's best work. It's beautiful up there even if you have to look through low lying clouds. Everyone on this trip was a lot of fun, as well. If you ever get the chance, you really want to take a vacation up there. And if you do, and get a chance to eat at the little restaurant across from the Anchorage Hilton have the eggs benedict made with crab. It's out of this world.
Packers are off to a good start! A nice win over a division opponent to start the season. The new defense looks good. The offense sputtered, but I think some of that was because the Bears have a good defense. The team REALLY needs to improve it's offensive line!
No other way to say it, the Brewers season has been disappointing. I didn't think they'd win the division. I thought Cubs would (shows you what I know) but I did think they'd have a winning season. And, as of this writing, it doesn't look that way. I don't blame Ken Macha. You could clone a combination of Joe Torre, Tony LaRusa and Tommy LaSorda and the team still wouldn't have won with that pitching staff. It needs as much work as the Pack's offensive line. Hardy and Hart have not played up to the potential either.
OK, that's it for today.
If you want to talk about any of these items or have one of your own, you know what to do.
