And the Emmy Goes to... Someone Else

It's an honor just being nominated.

That's what the actors always say when they're up for a big award and don't win.

Now, I know just how they feel.

We were nominated for news Emmys in two categories by the Chicago region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences this year. Mikel Lauber got a nod for his "Secrets in Shawano" series about the SIST group in the investigative news category. And Jocko, Dale Ryman, Adam Kuhn and I were nominated in the advance media -that means the internet- sports category for "The End of an Era." That was our web cast special at about Brett Favre's "retirement."

But it was not our night and a couple of stations from Chicago took home the gold.

At first it was really disappointing. I REALLY want one of those statuettes to sit in my office. But, the more I think about the accomplishment, the more I feel better about it.

For Mikel, everyone his category had at least a half dozen people working on the series' that were nominated. He and a former videographer here pretty much did all the work themselves.

For the sports guys and me, we put together an Emmy nominated special in a day.

And for a station in TV market #134 to be mention in the same categories as stations in TV market #3, I guess we did OK.

So, after the disappointment of hearing someone else's name after "And the Emmy goes to..." I really is an honor just to be nominated.

You know it's a fancy event when they have an ice sculpture.

All the world is a stage and this one's really nice.

Even if they're a little dark, here's proof we were actually nominated.

Going home empty handed.
