Beginning Again

Just when you thought you were too old to start learning new tricks....

Well, my first week is in the books here at NewsChannel 7 and it's been a pretty smooth one. I've known (and worked with) a lot of the people here and was acquainted with a number of others throughout the building. All have been quite welcoming. Needless to say, that's made things a lot easier. When it comes to the technology like computers and video editors, they're systems I'm familiar with and have used before. Again, just minor adjustments.

Still, the last few months have taught me some new things:

-The challenge in finding that new beginning. It's easy to get set in your ways. I certainly was. I was comfortable and learned that comfort can get shaken in a moment's notice. We all know how tough it is out there. I got lucky and got the chance for a new opportunity after just a few of months of searching. If you're out of a job - my hope is you get lucky soon, too.

-I learned the importance of staying up on your skills and learning new things that make you more marketable. I just have to remember to keep it up.

-I found out the importance of trying to stay positive and keeping busy. On a related note, I also learned just how many household projects stack up. It's amazing just how much can end up on that "HoneyDo List". I think I got them all done. I'm sure I'll hear if I haven't.

-I also learned how important a reputation is and how you never know who's watching or how closely.

-I even rediscovered how kind people can be. So many of you came up to me and wished me well and shared your thoughts when you saw me over the summer.  Still others offered their help and advice.  It truly meant a lot.

But this "old dog" still has more learning to do. I'm faced with new challenges - including getting use of writing not only for a newscast - but the internet. That includes this thing called a "Blog".

I think I'll save my thoughts on that until next time.
