Thursday the Badgers had media day. Unlike other Bowls, EVERY member of the roster take part. Not just the Tolzien's, Watt's and Clay's. The big names had a booth like the Super Bowl, the rest of the team just sits in groups of 8 at a round table throughout the conference room.
That's what made it even more fun, and one of the reasons we made the trip, and that's to give some attention to the three local Badgers from Northcentral Wisconsin.
Ethan Hemer, Medford, has had some air-time this season. He's started 5 games, and played in all 12. I haven't talked to Ethan since he graduated high school, and my goodness is he big. A redshirt freshman, he's still looking for his first career sack. Wouldn't it be something if that happened on New Years?
Edgar's Andrew Lukasko does a lot of the dirty work that doesn't get noticed. He flies around the field on special teams, and twice this season he's been the scout team player of the week. Andrew graduated Edgar just before I got to WSAW, but what a great kid, well spoken. He's living his dream as a Badger.
Konrad Zagzebski is a freshman from DC Everest who redshirted this season. He just had shoulder surgery to clean up some damage back in October. But he says he'll be ready to go for spring practice. Oh by the way, he's made the move from linebacker to defensive end, and he certainly looks the part.
I think all three guys were a little surprised to be interviewed. Their poise and great answers didn't surprise yours truly.
1 day, 21 hours, 44 minutes until kickoff.
Until next time...
