The Brewers signed lefty Randy Wolf to a 3-year contract, a club option for a 4th that will pay him nearly $30-million.

Good or bad signing?

My first thought was, "I hope they just didn't make a Jeff Suppan-type mistake."  He has had Tommy John surgery (2005) and shoulder surgery (2007).  But since the middle of the 2008 season, he's 17-9 with a 3.32 ERA.  The key being there is the 3.32.  If he can maintain a 3.30 or better with the Crew, that could amount to a 15-17 win season at least.

The Brewers' starting pitchers right now is Wolf, Yovani Gallardo, Manny Parra, Dave Bush, Suppan and Chris Narveson.

Suppan could get moved to the bullpen if Narveson pitches well enough in spring training.  And G.M. Doug Melvin has said he'd like to talk with Mark Mulder about coming to Milwaukee, too.

The staff still needs a front-line pitcher, but maybe Wolf or Gallardo will turn out to be just that.

im not liking the signing entirely because wolf statisically has never been as good as he was last year and hes a veteran with an injury history there was better options available

I have also seen reports that the may attempt to bring Ben Sheets back with a one year deal and talks continue with Brandan Looper to return.

Suppan will never move to the bullpen. The Brewers tried to move him there before last season started and Jeff said if he was moved, he would stop doing all his charity work in the community.
