Some Disgruntled Packers

I was in Green Bay Thursday for OTA's, and the story was Aaron Kampman, switching from defensive end where he was a pro bowler, to outside linebacker in the new 3-4 defense.  Every reporter I spoke with was anxious to finally hear from him.  We joked that they should have him in the auditorium rather than his locker because everyone wants to talk with him and it would be easier that way, he wouldn't have to answer the same questions 3 times.  But we were told Kampman would speak at his locker.  So we get into the locker room, and no Kampman.  Talk to Poppinga, no Kampman.  Greg Jennings, no Kampman.  Aaron Rodgers, Tramon Williams, Kole Heckendorf, Cullen Jenkins, Ryan Grant, AJ Hawk, still no Kampman.  Then the PR staff gives us the 2-minute warning before the locker room closes.  1-minute.  No Kampman.

Apparently, Kampman had a change of heart.  He also backed out of his appearance at Fan Fest, probably knowing he'd be peppered with questions from the media AND fans.  Hasn't talked about his position switch at all.  My thoughts...Kampman has always been a popular interview because he usually gives it to you straight.  And I don't think he wants to say anything because it's not in him to give a company line, when it's not how he feels.  How does the song go?  You say it best, when you say nothing at all."

And then there's Nick Collins and Donald Driver.  The Wisconsin State Journal is saying their sources tell them Driver ($6-million in '09 and $7-million in '10, base pay and bonuses) skipped out on the first week of OTA's because he wants a new contract.  The Green Bay Press-Gazette says the same thing about Nick Collins($3-million in '09, final year).

Did I mention Kampman is in the final year of his contract?
