Michael Vick was released from prison on Wednesday and will spend the final 2 months of his sentence in home confinement at his Virginia home, which lasts until July 20, all as a result of his involvement in a dogfighting ring.
Now for a couple of big questions...does he get reinstated to the NFL? And if/when he does, would you want him on your team? Whether it be as a backup QB, or a receiver/running back, all-purpose player, whatever. Knowing the talent he has(had), and he could help your team win, would you take him? Why or why not?
My thoughts...he'll have paid his debt. Look, there are people who have done worse things that have gotten a 2nd chance in life and their profession. I think he should get another chance, with no guarantees and if he screws up once, he's out. The bottom line for me is, can he improve the team? Any team that signs him had better have a plan for his contributions because the media frenzy it would become could me a MAJOR distraction. Just ask the Packers about last year's training camp being interrupted by #4. And that in itself could make it not worth the trouble. He'll get a chance, somewhere. But I think he has to earn it, by playing well on the field. He'll have to show that he can contribute, both on the field AND off the field, he won't just be kept around because of his past. It's a "what have you done for me lately" type of league.
Let me know your thoughts.
