Something Doesn't Seem Right in Titletown

Dom Capers is the new defensive coordinator.  Good hire.  And a guy that McCarthy, I don't think, has to worry about positioning himself to try and take over for McCarthy.

But he was, what, the 3rd choice?  The 4th?  That's after Mike Nolan (Broncos), Gregg Williams (Saints) and Jim Haslett (still unemployed) turned the job down.

What does that tell us about the Packers?  Does no one want to go there and coach anymore?  Or was the other job just a lot more attractive for some reason.

Is it the personnel on defense?  Maybe those guys didn't think the team has the right pieces to make a good defensive unit for their scheme.

Is it McCarthy?  Maybe those guys for some reason didn't want to work under him.  I mean, Nolan was HIS boss, so that would be a little weird.  Same for Haslett, who was the head coach in New Orleans when McCarthy was an assistant there.  And Williams said the Saints were more attractive, because the offense can score a lot of points.  Williams also added this little nugget : "And I think the defense has excellent potential to improve, and I know the organization has the right attitude to make that happen," [courtesy jsonline.com]

The organization has the right attitude?  Does that have something to do with Ted Thompson?  Maybe because Thompson likely won't spend the big money for that must-have free agent like other owners, G.M.'s do.

I'm curious as to what you're thinking.
