On July 27th, the Brewers were tied with the Cubs for first place. They blew a lead against the Astros, while almost simultaneously, the Cubs were rallying for a win against the Marlins. Brewers one game back.
Then comes their 4-game series at Miller Park. Over the last 1-1/2 seasons, the Brewers have been one of the best in MLB at home, while the cubs have struggled mightily on the road. What happens...yep! Cubs sweep 4 straight. Brewers 5 games back.
Since then, their play has been erratic, and now the drama of Monday night (8/4) in Cincinnati.
Prince Fielder and Manny Parra exchange pleasantries, then Fielder shoves Parra into the bench. Twice! The second catching Parra in the face. All this while the Brewers were losing to the struggling Reds.
After the game, Ned Yost was being Ned Yost. (If we have "Manny being Manny," we should have "Ned being Ned.") In a postgame interview, Yost was asked about the altercation. No big deal, he says, families fight (where have I heard that before...Ted Thompson.) Then Ned proceeds with this comparison...and I'm paraphrasing here. "It's a little rude for a someone to go next door when he hears the neighbors fighting and ask what's wrong. And that's what you're doing here. It's a family thing and no one else's business." WHAT?!
I understand if he wants to give a generic answer, internal matter, we'll handle it. But to chastise the reporter for asking the question? It's his job to ask, it's your job to answer.
Oh by the way, Ben Sheets 1-4 in his last 7 starts. I'm sure the free-agent-to-be is impressing the other teams in the heat of this pennant race.
***Disclaimer--I like the Brewers. I'm a fan. So don't come at me about being a Ned-hater, or Brewer-basher.***
