I'm curious about what you folks thought about the Saturday Night Fights on CBS. I like watching MMA, but I won't pony up for the pay-per-views. The fight stoppages were a bit much, but I have a feeling with it being in primetime on a network that the leash was a little shorter. EliteXC is probably the equivalent to Double-A baseball (along with King of the Cage), with the UFC being the majors and Pride Fighting being Triple-A.
Kimbo Slice? Big body, and he probably will get better since it was only his 3rd fight, but not the impressive showing that EliteXC or CBS was hoping for. Once he got pinned on the mat he didn't have the skills to get out. An above-average UFC fighter would have beaten Kimbo last night.
So what did you think? Would you watch it again? CBS will be having 2 or 3 more throughout the summer. I will say this, the choice of Gus Johnson as the play-by-play guy was an excellent choice, he can get you excited about something happening without over-doing it. From my time in the Quad Cities, I got to watch some MMA because a lot of the UFC guys live/train there like Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia and Jens Pulver. Having met and watched those guys fight, EliteXC has a lot of catching up to do as far as the all-around skills of their fighters. But what else are you going to watch on a Saturday night, right?
