SuperMoon Arrives!

A beautiful and bright, SuperMoon will be present in the skies tonight as clouds should hold off for a while out ahead of our storm system arriving early Sunday morning. This will be one of the biggest and brightest moons since March 8, 1993.

Few things for you:

A SuperMoon is a moon that  is closer to the Earth than normal due to its elliptical path around the this planet. While this phenomena happens fairly regularly, this one is going to be one of the times that it becomes closest to the Earth. This means the full moon will appear bigger and brighter than in years past.

Some thoughts are, because of it's closeness to the Earth this time, that it will cause higher and stronger tides than normal and cause a lot of damage to areas along the coastlines due to "excessive tidal effects". While the tides may be affected during this time, it is usually less than a few inches.

Bottom line is, grab yourself a jacket or blanket and head out of the city limits (lights) if you want to see this moon in it's full bright glory this evening. Clouds will be moving in throughout the evening hours, but you should be able to see just how bright (and close) this moon is later tonight. Even if you don't leave the city limits and until the clouds arrive, you should be able to see this big beauty move with ease through the night sky!
