In addition to the Super Saturday Celebration this Saturday, it is also National Weatherperson's Day!
It's that time of the year... time to celebrate National Weatherperson's Day! I make sure I post this blog every year and am on my own crusade to get this recognized as a Federal Holiday.... somehow I think it will take more than just a person doing weather in the "tiny tv market" of Wausau, Wisconsin to get that done, which is why I try to enlist all of my colleagues and Facebook friends to help out every year. As long as I continue to do weather on television, I will continue to use that platform to get the name out for this special day!
Yes we get our own day every February 5th. National Weatherman’s Day honors weathermen, and weatherwoman who work hard to accurately predict the often fickle weather. Despite major technological advances and supercomputers, forecasting the weather is still a tricky, and ever changing business. According to the Air Force News, Weatherman’s Day “commemorates the birth of John Jeffries, one of America’s first weathermen”. Jeffries was born on Feb 5, 1745. In addition, he was the first first to use a balloon to take weather observations over London in 1784. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816.
So keep the weatherman jokes to a minimum…
