Forecasting Severe Weather

Here I am... watching Titan Radar and various computer models, wondering if and when severe weather is going to hit Central Wisconsin.  Think of forecasting events like this (and snow storms) ... as making the perfect soup... where all the exact amounts of ingredients need to come together to make it taste just right.  Too much of one thing can totally throw things out of whack, and that's kind of how it happens in the weather community as well.

Now, that's just the forecasting aspect of severe weather.... forecasting it up to a few days in advance.

Want to try your hand at forecasting severe weather as it is happening?  The National Weather Service Office in Peach Tree, GA, has put together a simulator on bad weather and how quickly decisions have to be made when bad weather threatens.  It's a tough thing to stay on top of .. such as when to issue warnings and when not to issue warnings for various storms.  There's a little introduction at the top of the page, and then give it a shot.  You can see how quickly the National Weather Service Employees must make decisions concerning bad weather, and why working in the weather community can be a tough thing to do at times.

Give it a whirl... and let me know your thoughts....
