Extraordinary Measures

I have to admit, I am a huge Harrison Ford fan... been that way for over 2 decades, even trying to find his ranch in Wyoming one time after my friend and I took a detour from trout fishing near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. No one cheered more when the latest Indiana Jones movie came out, and I am still optimistic they will make one more film before it's time.

In addition, I have been a Brendan Fraser fan as well... one thing about both of these actors, they have been known as mainly "action stars" throughout their careers, even though both have spent time in non-action type roles. ("Regarding Henry" for Harrison Ford and "School Ties" for Brendan Fraser).  {If you have not seen either of those movies... they are a must rent!}

Anywho... these two actors come together for a very heart touching story about kids that are born with Pompe Syndrome and are running out of time to live. John Crowley (played by Brendan Fraser) is the father of two of these children afflicted by this life ending disease. This story is based on true events that happened from the late 90's through the early part of the 2000's.

I'm not going to lie, there were many times where I thought I was going to cry... it's very touching and has some humor added into the script at times throughout the movie. Harrison Ford's character (Dr. Stonehill) is fictional, his one characiter is based off of several scientists that helped find therapy and treatment for children born with Pompe Disease.

I was shocked that the local theater here in Wausau still isn't showing it, but found the 30 mile drive to see it in Stevens Point well worth the drive and $3 per gallon gas.

Has anyone else seen it yet? The reviews have been mainly good, not great, but good. I write on this movie as a viewer and not a critic and I will tell you it is at least worth the rent when it comes out on DVD later this year. This movie was made with an approximate $31 million dollar budget, almost unheard of for a domestic movie with several main actors in it. (in addition to Ford and Fraser, Keri Russell (Felicity and Mission Impossible III) and Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Spin City) are in this excellent movie.

Let me know what you think.... has Ford and/or Fraser lost their star power?  Both have not done well in the box office with their past few movies and I am sad that they haven't.
