For those of you wondering where summer went... well, you are not alone. We are already in the first week of August and we have yet to have that hot, humid oppressive weather (other than the third week in June).
Here's the number of 80 degree days:
1 in May
8 in June
5 in July
We had 2 90-degree days, both in June.
The month of July saw the average temperature end up over 5 degrees behind for the month, and while it was relatively cool for July, it wasn't necessarily that wet. We end up almost 3 inches behind for rainfall for the month as well.
The National Weather Service in LaCrosse has written up an interesting article (paraphrased from the Midwest Climate Center) about the cold summer.

Even more interesting, is that we are starting to see an El Nino form in the Pacific Ocean. This has traditionally led Wisconsin to a warmer than normal winter, but after a very cool and dry summer, that pretty much throws all bets off at this time. El Nino's have a tendency to decrease hurricane activity for the season- you can read more about that here:: au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/5776793/experts-predict-quieter-atlantic-hurricane-season/
All I can say is, enjoy the fair and the August "heat" while we have it! BTW- today is the first day where our average temps start decreasing... (yesterday avg. high 81/ avg. low 60 .... today (August 4, 2009) avg. high 81/ avg. low 59)
