My First Email of the Day .... oh Boy....

Posted: Wed 3:31 PM, Jan 28, 2009
My first email of the day arrived into my email folder at work just after 7am this morning and someone had typed the following:
"i think u need to go back to school for waether cause u suck"

The person did NOT sign it, but from his email header, he goes by Tim.

As a broadcaster, and especially as a television meteorologist, we all get emails and anonymous voicemails like this at times.  It really doesn't phase me anymore these days... and in fact, this email I am using as an example.

Normally, I would send a "form letter" that I typed up years ago thanking them for their comments and to continue to watch NewsChannel 7, etc.... you can ask anyone I work with, I WELCOME criticism... that's how your local broadcaster gets better... is by hearing what we are doing wrong from those of you in the public.  Sure, it would be nice to hear on occasion what we do right, but hearing what we do "wrong" is how we all get better... and that goes for any industry, whether you're a broadcaster, teacher, banker, daycare provider... whatever your career, if it is brought to your attention what you do wrong (with specifics), you can work on fixing that, right?

The above email... give me specifics?  Why do I suck?  What did I do wrong?  How was the forecast wrong?  Why did I get this email at 7am, when I was last on air the day before at noon?  If I go back to school, what should I do my PhD in?  I already have 2 degrees in meteorology ... do I need a third to do weather on television?
