Thursday Night - Friday Morning's Heavy Snow Potential

Just as one storm system leaves, another one with more moisture approaches Wisconsin for late Thursday evening.  At this point, it looks like this will be one of those storm systems that drops very little snow to the far north, while heavy snow up to 10" will be possible around Portage, WI.  Here's what I'm expecting for snowfall for the area for late Thursday night through Friday morning.

Phillips- 1.5"

Rhinelander- 1.5"

Antigo- 3.5"

Wausau- 4.0"

Stevens Point- 6.5"

Wisconsin Rapids- 7.0"

Adams-Friendship- 8.0"

As you may notice, there is a significant difference across our viewing area from north to south... not quite as drastic as Tuesday night's snowfall... but the same concept. The farther south you go in Wisconsin, the heavier the snow will be. I wouldn't rule out a few 9" snow amounts... probably just south of Juneau and Adams Counties... but there isn't much of a difference between 8 or 9 inches of snow... it's heavy and will cause plenty of travel problems starting up after 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Alas, winter is almost here, and starts this Sunday the 21st, which again, could be another major storm system, with the potential for heavy snow.
