Over the past week or so, we've seen a pretty marked change in the weather pattern across central and north-central Wisconsin... the sunny and 60 degree days are now a thing of the past and some areas have already had to shovel their first snowfall of the year.
After working the afternoon and evening in the newsroom tonight (Monday November 17, 2008)... I have heard of at least 20 accidents on the roads that are attributed to icy road conditions and/or driving when conditions don't warrant the speed (i.e. driving too fast on the icy roads). Please please PLEASE be careful traveling. I know I say it every year, yet when I hear of all these accidents, it concerns me that I am somehow not doing my job because of these accidents. Slow it down, don't use the cruise control, and allow some extra distance between you and the cars around you! To check out the latest road conditions ... dial 1-800-ROADWIS or click on |

Yup... absotutely posilutely (yes, made up words).... be careful with the Black Ice out there... it's one of those things that takes a while to get used to once again.
The disappearing act was courtesy of our Noon and 5pm director Garrett (if you noticed, I laughed through the entire thing! LOL).... any time we get tours at the station and even on school talks, I explain the job of the director... they push all the buttons for the show, read scripts, look at camera shots, call for camera shots and then call for mics to be turned on so we can be heard... as you can imagine, it's a very busy job. I have a feeling that he may not have had me punched up correctly in preset when we went from me in front of titan, to me in front of the next source ... techy talk sure... but kind of fun. I've told a lot of people this in the industry and during tours... the technical people I have worked with in 10 years of television have been outstanding. That started with Pat and Jeff at the guys down the road, to Jen, Bill, Todd, Adam and Tim at WREX in Rockford, IL to Nate, Garrett, Matt, Jim here... and I can't forget Nick. I've truly been blessed to have really good people behind the scenes... and you know they are good when they can make someone like me look good!
Agreed... great advice.. use the headlights. Some states actually require the use of headlights in the daytime when there is precipitation... not to mention the fact that a lot of newer cars have DRL (daytime running lamps)... but they aren't as bright as your regular headlamps.
On a side note, I'm considering buying the blue light bulbs for my truck this winter... I hear they are better for seeing snow and ice... anyone used these before?
