It's that time of year where the Perseid Meteor Shower is ramping up and we're coming up on the peak viewing, which is tonight, tomorrow night and into early Sunday morning. **
The meteor shower started up late last night and will continue through early Monday morning, but the rate of meteors will remain under 20 per hour or less until the peak. The peak viewing will have the meteors streaking across the sky at the rate of 50-80 meteors per hour!
Now, random useless trivia for you here.. the earliest year that these meteors were noticed was 36AD, by observers in China. These meteors also show up in Chinese, Japanese and Korean historical records through the 9-11th centuries, so they have been around a very long time.

**These meteors are definitely worth a gander over the next few nights. The problem we run into is, what will the weather do to viewing conditions. The clouds will remain around the area tonight and early Saturday morning, and possibly again for Sunday early morning. Even worse, we're going into a Full Moon, so they will be VERY difficult to see!
Best viewing is OUTSIDE of the city limits and looking off to the north northeast. Best viewing will start as early as 11pm (which may be before the fog gets dense) and should continue through 4:30am the next several mornings.
