Every 2 to 3 years, as the UW Badgers head out to sunny and hot Las Vegas, I am usually part of a rather large group of central Wisconsinites to head out there to watch them play in the football game vs. UNLV. Badger fans travel like none other, and I love being a part of the Badger experience while out in the desert of good ol' Nevada.
I normally like to write about my experience out there... what I liked, what I didn't like, etc.... and see what you all have found about your own personal Las Vegas Trips. My trip (this time around) was nothing like the movie the "Hangover", I can assure you that... as I still have all my teeth and never had a Tiger in my bathroom. That's about all I can write about that movie in this blog without getting into trouble. LOL
Anywho, a little background on my previous times in Las Vegas. I was there once as an 8 year old kid, of which, the Las Vegas Strip looked a lot different then back in the 80's. In fact, a lot of changes have happened to the city in the past almost 30 years. In 1980, there was just over a half million of people living in the Las Vegas Metro Area. Today, it is estimated at around 2 million people living there. (source: city-data.com) My first Las Vegas experience was in the 80's and then my most of the rest of the trips happened in the 2000's... and let me tell you, this is quite a different city.
I have stayed at plenty of different (mainly) casinos in those past trips, some of them no longer even in existence on the Las Vegas Strip... and it's been less than a decade since my first and last return in the 2000's. I can honestly say, they have been all an "experience" in their own right.. some bad, some okay and some really good. I can honestly say, this last time around my accomodations were the best I have ever experienced in all my times in Las Vegas.
My trip this time was only a handful of days, and this time around, we had an inexperienced Las Vegas goer in the group, so we had plenty to do. We knew we wanted to stay at the "busier" end of the strip, which to me is the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, and then work our way around that area and northward. In my opinion, we could not have chosen anything better than the newly remodeled Tropicana ... or the "Trop" if you will. This awesometastic place has undergone a new remodeling this year and let me tell you, things are quite different at the "Trop" and it much different than the old. That's not saying anything bad about the "old Trop"... it's just that the "new Trop" made that much of an impression on me and the rest of our party. The entire place is done in a kind of "South Beach" theme, with bright and appealing colors, distinct and fun themes... and one thing I loved everyday,,, the smell of coconuts everywhere you roamed in the place.
The pool area is immaculate, and while I was there, they were still in the process of making Club Nikki and Nikki Beach,,, but if they turn out anything like the pool area they have now, you won't be disappointed.
We made it up and down the Las Vegas Strip several times to see all the different sights and sounds of Las Vegas we could. There are daily shows that are must see's at: Treasure Island (now called just "TI"), Fountains of Bellagio (great music and a lot of water power), Fall of Atlantis Show in Caesars (near the Forum Shops), and also the show on the lake in front of Wynn Las Vegas, and then the Light/Music Show down on Fremont Street! Best thing is, all these daily shows are FREE and well worth your time. You will certainly want to scout the time out on all of those shows ahead of time, unless you have lots of patience with waiting and being in not so great viewing areas.
M and M world, Harley Davidson Cafe, Dick's Last Resort are also worth mentioning as places to visit, as each offers a unique experience every time you go into them and you'll come out of those places (and many others) with a smile on your face.
I'm sure and I know I'm missing some "Must See" things in Las Vegas... let me know about them by dropping a note below. Go Badgers!
Stratosphere! Beautiful... and very TALL. If you're a thrill seeker, try one of the rides at the top.... ;)
Southside of Strip... New York, MGM... looking from the Tropicana.
Eiffel Tower... in Las Vegas? Yup!
