It's my favorite time of year! And while you can't always count on warm weather - the one thing you can expect every summer is local county fairs.
The 2009 Lincoln County 4-H Fair in Merrill is in full swing. On Thursday, videographer John DesRivieres and I spent the day up north taking in the sites and of course I had to get up close with the animals.
Thank you to the Lincoln County Extension Agent, Debbie Moellendorf, 4-H Youth Program Adviser, Amanda Kofpman, and the Lincoln County Fair Board Director, Dale Christiansen, who helped me organize live shots and interviews. And of course a SPECIAL thank you to all of the 4-H and FFA members and their families who took time out of their busy day to talk to us and show off their projects.
Being a proud 10-year 4-H member I know that the organization is so much more than just exhibiting projects... it's about being part of one BIG family. And even though my 4-H roots take me back to Indiana, the Badger State 4-H and FFA members have excepted me as one of their own... and from the bottom of my heart I THANK YOU!
While the local county fair typically runs just one week, the work continues all year long. Whether you have livestock, take part in volunteer projects, leadership trips, or other 4-H exhibits it's a process that expands your knowledge and creativity, but more importantly you are making life long friends.
Last year, I made my way around several area county fairs and this year I'm looking forward to reconnecting with several people that I meet (It's one of the best aspects of the 4-H program). : )
For all of those who are not a involved in the 4-H and FFA programs, please try and find the time to make it out to ALL of the area local fairs and support the hard work and positive impact these students, families, and volunteers are having on the communities.
And to all of you who are a part of the 4-H and FFA family - I wish you a very memorable county fair and prosperous year. And when there are times you just don't feel like working on your projects or are tired and crabby because you have been at the fair all day, every day... I offer this advice... Enjoy it while you can, because it will be one of the best times you'll ever have in your life - at least it was for me!
I don't go anywhere without my camera... so here's some of my favorite snapshots from the 2009 Lincoln Co. 4-H Fair.
