It's hard to believe that I'm approaching my two year anniversary of living in Wausau, and yet there are still so many places I have yet to visit. However, I may have found one of my favorite places in the Northwoods.
The last weekend in June, my mom, Becky, came up from Indiana to spend some time with me. We decided to take a trip up north to explore a few of the places that we featured on NewsChannel 7's Your Town Minocqua, Woodruff, and Arbor Vitae. Go figure the weekend we decide to go it's raining - that's just our luck. So we decided to visit many of the shops in hopes the rain would pass - which of course was not as disappointing as I may make it sound. Anytime to shop is OK by me! We then ate lunch at the Paul Bunyan's Restaurant (which I have to say... the bakery is Fabulous. I highly suggest the Lamb's Ear! It's pure delicious sugar).
Finally after waiting for the rain clouds to pass, they sky cleared up just long enough for us to visit the Wildwood Wildlife Park. Since we are both animal lovers we couldn't wait! (Ever since Chad and the rest of the NewsChannel 7 gang visited... I have been green with envy and couldn't wait to see the critters for myself.) And let me tell you... I was on cloud 9! My mom and I loved the fact that we could get up close to the animals and even pet some of them.
By far my favorite animal on the grounds was Penny the pot belly pig. She was really crabby the day we were there, but that just made me love her even more. (Here's a little side note: Someday I want to have my own pot belly pig. Ever since I was a little girl I've LOVED pigs. And for those of you who don't know... they are actually very smart animals and easy to train.)
But if you not a fan of pigs like I am, they actually have a wide array of animals to check out. But some of my mom and I's favorites were the bobcat, bears (which you can feed it bear juice - it was awesome and I feed them several times! ; ) ), and the mountain goat (he reminded us of the old children's story "The Billy Goat's Gruff." He had quite the personality!)
My mom and I had a great time up north. And if you're looking for a fun and entertaining place there's always something new to see up north.
