Why the Bad News Matters

People will often ask us questions like, "Why is the news always bad? No one wants to hear those horrible things."

Well, trust me, we don't want to report them, either.

Here's an interesting article from Quill, a publication of the Society of Professional Journalists.  It's called Overcoming Trauma, and it's written by a crime reporter in Charlotte.

I hope you read it... because she explains why these horrible stories -- that you don't always want to hear, and we don't always want to tell -- really do need to be told.

And fortunately, we don't have ALL bad news, even if it seems that way sometimes!  We really do look for uplifting, "happy" stories too... so if you ever have any ideas, let us know!

I believe things happen for a reason. Our story is a perfect example of how a bad situation became a blessing in disquise. I spend the word to others so they don't make the same mistakes. I feel when tv stations report the bad, they are helping others to make better and more informed choices about their own lives. I watch the news each night to see what I need to learn about today kind of attitude. Itsn't that what they always say, "attitude is everything.", check out my website for more information on how I help others, www.moneytutorllc.com.

A rather biased article from, who else, a news reporter, trying to justify to themselves why their job matters.

Hey Alison - Just an FYI - you and your co-workers represent what that article is written about. You tell honest, true and heartfelt stories - bad or good - because you care. Like a friend of mine says, the day a story does not affect you is the day you should look into a career change. You need to have passion to do a job well, and that cannot be more true in journalism (good journalism, that is). Keep up the awesome work! Chris
