With yesterday's trade of Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, does that make the Bears more than an after thought in the black and blue NFC North?? I'm not so sure. Yes, the Bears needed to find a solution to the quarterback position. Never in the history of the Chicago franchise has a QB thrown for over 4,000 yards. Last year, Cutler easily surpassed that total in Denver. Cutler is only going to be 26 years old, and gives the Bears something to build on on the offensive side of the ball. To me, they still need help on their offensive line or else Cutler will be running for his life. The signing of Orlando Pace is good, but he is old and has been prone to injury the past couple years of his career. To me, this trade makes sense but if you consider what Kansas City gave up to get Matt Cassell it looks like Denver bam-boosled Chicago in acquiring two first-round selections along with a third. If you were to ask me, I'd still say the Vikings are the team to beat in the North. Strangely enough, I also believe that Tarvaris Jackson could be a solid player at quarterback if given the opportunity. If not, the acquisition of Sage Rosenfels at least gives them a viable option at the position as well. The team as a whole is the key there. You can't deny their running game is one the league's best with Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, and their defense is solid across the board. The Packers would be my number two team. Aaron Rodgers will continue to grow and his weapons at receiver are second to none in this division. They have too many holes on both lines to guarentee that the running game will work on offense or can be stopped on defense. The transition to a 3-4 also intrigues me. I do have my concerns there as well. Aaron Kampman is one of the league's better defensive ends and now he is being moved to an OLB in the new scheme. I'm not sold he has the quickness to play that position. The Lions... well, they're still the Lions and won't compete for anything substantial. What do you think?? Let me know if you agree with me or think I'm totally off base!! |

Well Adam, I think that the bears are goint to be a pretty good team this season, but they werent good enought to beat the packers, oh yea and You will never be able to defeat me in the U Pick em ha ha So far this year, yeah... my U Pick 'Em isn't holding up. I'll try to do better, being a great football mind and all!! Posted by: Kevibn Location: Phillips I always did say that the best thing about Chicago being down there; is the fact that Chicago IS down there! Posted by: mike j degen Location: tigerton the vikings will still win the divsion.even with out favre. Posted by: Kevin Location: Phillips I think the greatest thing about chicago being down there is the fact that CHICAGO IS DOWN THERE!!!! Posted by: DR Location: Wausau This blog totally reeks of a Vikings fan who dons a Tarvaris Jackson jersey on Sundays. Posted by: AC Location: Wausau Always have been, always will be! Not so sure about that... I can remember many of years (does Cade McNown ring a bell??) where they weren't very good. Posted by: jay Location: Chicago correct me if i'm wrong, but did'nt the bears just fall short in the division by one game behind the below average QB having vikes? i'm a homer but i shoot it real. this division is now up for grabs since the bears got Cutler. The vikes are the 2005 bears, great D, solid running game, NO QB! if the bears D plays like a it can in the top half of the league this years, they can win this division. By the way, the Bears last 10 first round picks have all been bust besides tommie Harris. Not to mention that the Bears have a low first round pick this year and got a extra 3round pick from the vikes for berrian, and next years first rounder may be even lower! not this year, but the Bears have solidified the most important position on the field for years to come, they have a couple years to build around him through draft n free agency and have enough to contend and get him experience now. the bears still have 8 picks this year and Angelo's track record is superb in finding late round gems. The Bears DO NOT have a 1st round pick this year. Posted by: Hank Location: Wausau The Bears will be for real if they pick up Plaxico Burress. I think they got screwed over on the Cutler deal with them trading away all those draft picks. I don't see Tarvaris Jackson ever being a successful starting qb in his career, and I think they needed Cutler more than Chicago did. I can see the Lions being the surprise team of 2009 especially if they draft Stafford or Sanchez. The Packers are set on offense and I think if they can draft Raji and a great OLB in the draft, they will be a serious Super Bowl contender. I can see the division looking like this after the season is done..1. Packers, 2. Bears. 3. Lions, 4. Vikings Now we might be jumping to conclusions. The Packers are WAY further away from being a Super Bowl contender than just a DT or LB. Remember, Aaron Rodgers had a pretty good year but was running for his life a lot of the time because the line couldn't protect. I believe the new 3-4 system is the key. If the scheme works, they could push for the playoffs... if it doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised by another year of under .500 ball. Posted by: eric Location: indianapolis What the heck have you been smoking???Really, are you serious?? WOW. I wish I could use something like that as an excuse, but the reality is that defense and a running game are what wins in this league... when's the last time the league's top passing offense has won a Super Bowl?? Makes you think doesn't it. |
