Children with Autism often face years of therapy and treatment.

But for one night a month they can relax and have fun at the Central Wisconsin Children's Museum.

The Museum sets aside two hours each month to allow children with autism to feel free to just be kids.

This getaway isn't like therapy, because there's no set structure or a desired outcome.

Fun is the primary goal.

The Museum's Education Director Tonya Kowalski says having this time is good for their development.

"When we are typically open it can be overwhelming to a child with Autism so we wanted to have a special playtime just for those children," says Kowalski.

She says the relaxed, small setting is ideal because some children with Autism are uncomfortable around large groups of people.

Their siblings are welcome to come too, and for Jordan and Erin Huffman of Stevens Point this free activity is something their boys Logan and Judah look forward to.

"It's safe and he enjoys it and it's something they can do together says Erin Huffman.

Their oldest son, Logan, has Autism and the Huffmans say their nights at the museum are a good way to meet and connect with other parents of children with autism.

In addition to multiple interactive play rooms, the museum also offers an opportunity to paint or complete a small project.

Autism Night is the first Monday of every month from 5 to 7p.m.
